Ideal dog breed for the outdoors man?
I do alot of backpacking, stream side fly-fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, etc. and I’m looking for a companion. Are there any breeds that are best suited for these activities? I have been leaning towards a husky or a german shepard. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Sounds like you want to get a working breed. There are many great companions but depends on where you plan to house the dog. Will the dog be primarily indoors or out. Do you have a fenced yard? Do you have lots of time to devote to training? Do you have children? Do you live in the city or the country? Do you live in a temperate climate? Size preferences? Shedding? Do you want a younger dog or one that has had some training? Activity level, how much time do you have to spend exercising your dog? All of these are questions you should be asking yourself.
Personally I like Airedales, English Cream Colored Retrievers they are a bit calmer than the American bred, Weimeraners, German Short-haired Pointers, Brittany Spaniels, Vizslas, Irish Setters, German Sherpards, Flat Coated Retrievers.
Research each of these breeds and find the one that fits your lifestyle best? Attend a dog show and talk to the breeders about their dogs.
