Travel tips for those visiting Hollywood, California
As you start preparing your trip to go to Hollywood, there’s many questions you may have if you have never been to Hollywood. What hotel should I stay at? Where should I eat? What great family activities are there? What online resources are available? These are all valid questions and there are so many others you may have, so lets get started!
Depending on what your budget is will determine a great deal on where you can stay while in Hollywood. If you’re very low on funds, and were planning on going to a hostel, you’re in luck. USA Hostels Hollywood is located at 1624 Scharder Blvd. This hostel receives rave reviews and includes in it’s price (which usually starts at $24/night) all you can make pancakes, wireless internet, storage for your bags, as well as offering shuttle service to the beach (3 days a week) and free backpack sized lockers for your use. They also run several tours in the area, have pub crawls and other great activities! This hostel is also located in the heart of the city, where it’s convenient to walk around Hollywood Blvd. as well as near plenty of nightclubs. There are additional hostels in the area, though you’ll want to research the area where the hostel is located to make sure it’s most convenient based on your needs.
If you’re looking to stay at a nice hotel, there are many amazing hotels in Hollywood. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd, is known for it’s Hollywood history and fun. Back in 1929, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel hosted the 1st Academy Awards. The hotel also has had many notable Hollywood residents and guests thru the years stay there including; Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Grant and Elizabeth Taylor to just name a few. The pool at the Roosevelt is known being one of the true hotspots for those wanting to be seen in the summer filled with plenty of socialites and Teddy’s located in the main lobby of the hotel is known to be one of Hollywood’s top lounges filled with celebrities on a weekly basis. Reservations/Guest List though is of the norm, so plan ahead.
If you’re looking to stay on the Sunset Strip, you may want to look into the Mondrian Hotel, Andaz West Hollywood (formerly known as The Riot House – as seen in the movie Almost Famous), Sunset Tower Hotel, and how can we leave out the Chateau Marmont! These hotels all vary in price and all have their own uniqueness and history, which makes them all top hotels off the Sunset Strip. If you decide to stay at any of these hotels, you’re located close to many of Hollywoods top music venues including: House of Blues Sunset, The Roxy, The Whisky A GoGo and The Viper Room.
Dining in Hollywood should come easy, as you’re central in location to Restaurant Row (off La Cienega) or Sunset Plaza. Both locations in the city have tons of great restaurant choices. The Farmers Market located on the corner of 3rd and Fairfax is also filled with tons of great food choices, as well as some great shopping at The Grove, which is located right next door.
When discussing shopping in and around Hollywood, there are so many great places to go. The Beverly Center, located off La Cienega between Beverly and 3rd is world famous and has been seen in many movies. The Beverly Center has everything from major departments stores such as Macy’s to many great boutique shops and jewelry stores where you’re bound to buy some great items. If you’re looking to shop outside while enjoying the great weather, make sure to go down Melrose Avenue between Fairfax and La Brea as you’ll find many amazing clothing stores from top designers to vintage wear. There’s also a nice outdoor mall located at Hollywood & Highland, which is right in the heart of Hollywood Boulevard. If you’re with the family, you’ll also want to visit The Hollywood Wax Museum, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not Hollywood Museum, which are both located within walking distance from the Hollywood & Highland complex. In addition, located just 10 minutes outside of Hollywood, make sure to enjoy a day at Universal Studios and take a nice stroll down CityWalk while over there.
