5 Must See Places in Lebanon
As with any overseas journey, every traveller should make sure they have the best travel insurance package in place before they arrive. When it comes to travelling in Lebanon, the same rule applies and you should ensure you have the best cover you can afford for medical and hospital treatment expenses. That is not to say that Lebanon on is more dangerous than any other destination, but when visiting any country which has experienced the unrest that we have all witnessed in Lebanon on, it is just a matter of simple common sense.
Despite the problems that Lebanon has experienced over the last decade or so, things have really settle down over the last few years and now, politically, the country is in a relatively stable position and is once again on the radar of tourists looking for something different. Beirut once held the enviable reputation of being the Paris of the East, and although this is no longer the case it is keen to once again attain its proud mantle as the most desirable destination in the Middle East.
Although care still needs to be exercised when visiting this part of the world, there are plenty of things to include on your itinerary. Let’s take a look at five must see destinations in Lebanon on.
- Beirut. Beirut is a heady mixture of modern sophistication and the dreadfully poor and disaffected. This is a city that truly represents the paradoxical elements that are close to the heart of every Lebanese; that of tolerance of every disparate element of society even in the face of regular violence; and the underlying belief that everything will be OK in the end. From a practical point of view you will really enjoy the restaurants and cafes that seem to occupy a part of every street, and the same goes for the nightlife where nightclubs, cinemas and theatres are prevalent. The history of Beirut extends back as far as 7000 years so it is not surprising to know that there are plenty of archaeological digs to visit.
- Tyre. The origins of this city date back to approximately 2750 BC. The ancient markets are a magnet for tourists as are the historical ruins of previous Roman settlements. There is even archaeological evidence of the one-time Egyptian rulers who benefited from the cedar timber which acquired biblical significance.
- The Bekka Valley. This is one of the more fertile regions of Lebanon on but is also home to many magnificent archaeological sites particularly at Baalbek and Aanjar. The major town of the region is Zahle, a great place to visit in summer with a cool climate and a happy atmosphere created by its cheerful inhabitants. It’s great to get into the Lebanese lifestyle when visiting towns such as Zahle, and you will get a greater appreciation of the true nature of everyday life in Lebanon.
There are plenty of things to do and see in Lebanon, and you can certainly plan a safe holiday here despite its recent reputation. As mentioned previously, make sure you have adequatetravel insurance cover to take care of any unforeseen problems.
