Backpack Carrier For Toddler!
How to Carry a Toddler in a Backpack Carrier
Backpack Carrier For Toddler Questions

Which backpack carrier for toddler?
I’m looking to buy a backpack style carrier for my son (1 year old). I need it to last a few years and he is a big boy already – so one that will take up to 20 kg would be preferable.
Has anyone got any advice? I’ve had a look and there seems to be a lot of choice. They cost a lot of money so I need to make the correct buy!
I was looking for a structured one as opposed to a sling type but am open to being persuaded otherwise.
Borrowed a structured one this week to try out – and my son hated it, screaming his little heart out. Many thanks for your answers but will try to borrow some other types before shelling out for one of my own.
what about at Ergo http://www.ergobabycarrier.com i used on from 6 months till 11 months then i put my hip out, and got pregnant and cant carry her any more but it does hold upto about 40lb i think.
also check out www.thebabywearer.com for more info.
you can get prety good 2nd hand ergo’s on eBay, they retail about £50 in UK but you can get one for about £30 on ebay. i love mine.
What A Good Baby Backpack Carrier Can Do For You
A good baby backpack carrier can make your baby happy as well as offering you a convenient way to transport your child. Children naturally want to be close to their parents. Being carried gives babies the comfort of closeness as well as the soothing rhythms of natural motion. Carrying your baby or toddler in a baby backpack carrier provides the closeness the child needs as well as enabling you to have your hands free.
Can you imagine how it would feel to be sitting strapped to a seat close to the ground and surrounded by giants? That’s pretty much how your baby must feel when strapped into a stroller and wheeled round a crowded shopping mall. The world is a new and exciting place to infants. But viewing the world at knee-height from a stroller is not the way to get the most out of new places and experiences.
Riding high on your back will provide your little one with a new perspective on the world. The stimulation of new visual experiences will keep your young one alert and interested. A well entertained baby is not a fussy baby. Having your baby happy and enjoying the ride leaves you free (as well as hands-free) to what you need to do. You can browse shops, weed the flower beds, do laundry or go for a long walk. Your baby will be comfortable and will enjoy the view wherever you go. Closeness to a parent and new things to watch are two things guaranteed to help your child to be relaxed and contented.
With your infant or toddler in a backpack you will have the freedom to go where you want with ease. Backpacks call hiking to mind. But you don’t need to take long walks in the countryside to feel the benefits of using a baby backpack carrier. You can enjoy the freedom provided by a carrier in all sorts of environments. You won’t have to struggle and bump a stroller up and down stairs. You won’t have to wedge yourself into a crowded lift because the stairs are too steep. You can forget about struggling to manoeuvre a stroller while making athletic movements to try to keep a heavy shop door from swinging shut.
Anyone who has a child will know how difficult it is to do anything with a babe in arms. Probably the best thing about carrying your little one in a backpack is the fact that it leaves your hands free. There will be times when using a stroller is impracticable and you need to carry your baby. Even a tiny bundle of joy will start to feel heavy after being carried for a while. A sling or backpack will enable you to carry your child without becoming tired easily. You won’t suffer aching arms and backache.
It is best not to start using a backpack carrier until your baby is able to hold his/her head up. During the early months it is better to use a baby sling or a front carrier to ensure that the infant has the correct support when being carried. When the child is about six months old, it will be more comfortable and convenient for him/her to be carried on your back. Baby front carriers are more expensive than slings. But there are front carriers that can be converted into backpacks. This extends the time they can be used, so they can be worth the initial outlay.
