Backpacks US have been around as long as man had the need to shoulder heavy items from point A to point B. The earliest known use was for hunting game with a large party of men. When the needed food was captured, the hunters would skin the animal and cut it into pieces to be carried back to the village. The earliest packs were made from animal skins sewn together with the intestines of the same animals. This made a sturdy two strapped pack to carry on the back.
The wartime troops used a backpack to shoulder all their necessities for life while facing the enemy. They carried food supplies, guns, water, tents, clothes and medical supplies while in the outdoors for as long as their mission lasted. Their packs were designed to be carried on external supports which allowed the soldier to lug over 100 pounds of supplies.
In society today people use all kinds of packs like the single strap backpack to tote light items like mats used in yoga class or in any exercises requiring floor work. The load is not so heavy for the single strap backpacker, but it does free the hands to use in other activities.
Backpacks are popular today for students to lug their textbooks and school tools around campus. These are very inexpensive, soft packs with 2 shoulder straps. The best prices are found on school packs in local discount stores, shops in the mall with seasonal sales, or on the internet. Many of these school packs only have one large compartment for books with a zipper pocket and sometimes one or two netted external compartments for accessories.

Outdoor use of packs is very common today and the design for hiking includes a durable internal frame that can be strapped across the hips to bear heavy loads. When the weight is carried on the hips it is closer to the hiker’s center of gravity and the design is useful to distribute weight evenly for long excursions.
The backpack is also used for some interesting sports like rock climbing and paintball games. The most interesting is the tote used for hydration. This design allows outdoors men and women to shoulder water with tubing from the water bottle to the mouth for drinking without unloading the pack.
In conclusion, backpacks US have been used since the earliest human existence. It was a design which allowed men to carry heavy items on their backs using external and internal frames to evenly distribute heavier loads. The packs continue to be popular and are used by students and people in the business world for lighter, daily item’s that need to go mobile for class or work. It is probably one of man’s most logical and natural inventions.
